Having a strong USP doesn’t guarantee success, though. It has to be aligned with the needs and expectations of your market. Just because you are able to make green chocolate, and you have a strong USP, it doesn’t mean that people will pay you extra for green chocolate.

If you can book a few hours off to develop your USP, you should do it. Here are some steps that will help you get started.

- Pick a particular niche
- Learn about your competition
- Find out which particular need of the market your competitors are not addressing
- Choose a USP that is unique enough and strong enough to convince your target audience that what you offer is exactly what they need. You will need to provide the exact answer to their questions: “what is in it for me and why should I care about what you do?”
